Over the past year, Adie Hughes of Hampden has pursued advancement and development as a soccer referee.

Adie, who had already been traveling for many years with Soccer Maine to Regionals and other tournaments, added almost 20 states to her resume and some major showcases, academies, and tournaments including: Heritage Cup (AZ), Jefferson Cup (VA), WAGS (VA) ECNL Showcase x2 (SC, FL) Needham Memorial Day Academy (MA), East Coast College Showcase (WV), Presidents’ Cup Regional (WV), National Championship Series Regional (NJ) and  President’s Cup Nationals (IA) Additionally, Adie worked her first professional level match in the USL2 circuit.

She hopes to continue to referee and pursue her goals, and enjoys giving back to the game of soccer. She appreciates the feedback from the incredible mentors that she has worked with this summer and says that she has worked with some very talented referees who are now like family!

Adie says that the highlight of her summer was being selected as one of 12 East Coast referees to represent her Region at the National Tournament for President’s Cup. Beyond the honor of being invited, she was selected to the referee crew for the Under 17G National Final!

Adie says that if I could give any piece of advice to a new referee it would be this: Take a little bit of advice from everybody until you find the balance that works for you… and then pass it forward. Teach. Mentor. Encourage

Adie is now attending Nichols College in Dudley, MA where she hopes to continue both playing and reffing soccer.
